Your profitable days

Nothing leaves your browser. Preset percentages are typical values — check your own account's terms.

How the rule actually bites

It punishes your best day

The bigger your best session, the more total profit you have to accumulate before it counts as "consistent".

It is checked at payout

You usually find out at the worst moment — when you request the money, not when you take the trade.

The fix is slow, not clever

You cannot undo the day. You trade normal days until the total catches up, which is why people track it from day one.

It interacts with the target

Hitting the target fast with one huge day is the classic way to be funded and unpaid at the same time.

A worked example

A $50K account with a 30% rule and a $3,000 target. You make $600, $450, then a $1,800 day, then $250 — total $3,100, target cleared. But $1,800 is 58% of the profit, so the payout is blocked: at 30%, $1,800 needs $6,000 of total profit. You are $2,900 of ordinary days away from the money you already made.

Consistency rule — FAQ

What is the consistency rule on a prop firm account?

It caps how much of your total profit a single day may represent. If the rule is 30% and your best day is $1,800, you need at least $6,000 of total profit before that day stops blocking you. It exists to filter out traders whose whole result came from one lucky session.

Does the consistency rule block the payout or fail the account?

On most firms it does not fail the account — it delays the payout. You keep trading until your total profit is large enough for the best day to fall back under the percentage. A few firms apply it to the evaluation itself, so check your own contract.

How do I fix a day that is too big?

You cannot shrink the day, so you grow the total: keep taking normal-sized days until the best day falls under the limit. The calculator shows exactly how much more profit that takes.

Which firms use a consistency rule?

Topstep, Take Profit Trader, MyFundedFutures, Tradeify and Elite Trader Funding are the common ones among futures firms, typically between 30% and 50%. Percentages change — always read your own account's current terms.
